Myth about cardio and weight-loss

Myth: Cardio will help you lose weight, resistance training won’t.

I hear this a lot; “I want to lose weight so I need to do hours of cardio”. Cardio will help you lose weight as long as you are doing the cardio, and you burn a fair few calories depending on the exercise being completed. But it does very little in the time afterwards.

Compare that to resistance training, which will continue to burn calories after your workouts finished. The other important point is that resistance training will change your body composition. You can literally sculpt your physique. If you are a pear shape and you do lots of cardio you will just be a smaller pear shape, whereas with resistance training you can change the shape of your physique completely.
