“Chris, the only time I go mad on the drink is when I go out with my mates. They encourage me to drink more than I want.”
I heard this the other day, and I can tell you it is one of the most common things I hear when people go out with their friends.
So how do you deal with this issue?
The first thing to do is book something in for the very next day that is really important to you. Something that you enjoy and that means more to you than getting drunk. Then be honest with your friends. Say, “I’m not drinking tonight because I’m taking the kids out, and I don’t want to be hanging”. Or that you are having a workout, and that is more important.
If they are your mates, they will understand, but find something that you hold more dear than getting pi**ed and stick to your guns.
